-        Open to students and residents within a 100-mile radius of Moscow, ID/Pullman, WA or Lewiston, ID/Clarkston, WA.

-        Eligibility is limited to: Instrumentalists who have not reached their 23rd birthday by October 26, 2008 and singers or guitarists who have not reached their 27th birthday by October 26, 2008. Minimum age limit: 9th grade.

-        Previous winners are not eligible.


Entries will be judged in the following divisions: High School (9-12), Post-High School (Keyboard/Non-Keyboard), and Voice. There may not be a winner chosen from each division. Instrumentalists should be prepared to perform one movement of a concerto from the standard public domain repertoire: singers, an aria for which orchestral accompaniment is available. Any questions concerning the definition of standard public domain repertoire should be directed to Ryan Nitz prior to the application deadline: 509-332-3408 or symphony@pullman.com.

The following selections are NOT eligible: Mozart: "Una donna a quindici anni" (Cosi fan tutte), Gounod: "Jewel Song" (Faust), Reinecke: Flute Concerto Op. 283, Elgar: Cello Concerto Op. 85, Ravel: Piano Concerto (G Major).
                   
The selection of semi-finalists will be by recorded audition (cassette tape or CD required). There is no time limit for the recorded audition. Recordings and application forms must be postmarked by October 3,  2008. The following information should be printed or typed and attached to the tape or CD case:

Please do not write your name on the cassette/CD itself. Please send completed application form, tape or CD with attached information and $25.00 registration fee (PLEASE DO NOT SEND CASH) to: Washington Idaho Symphony, 115 NW State St. Suite 117, Pullman, WA 99163. Entrants will be notified of the results of the recorded auditions by October 15, 2008.  Tapes/CDs and application fees cannot be returned. Finalists will be selected at the Young Artists' Competition on October 26, 2008. Music must be memorized and the time limit for the live performance is 10 minutes. Each contestant must provide his/her own accompanist, music for three judges, and audition with the music which he/she proposes to perform with the orchestra. Pre-editing for audition purposes will be permitted and is encouraged. The Washington Idaho Symphony will make every effort to present the winners of the Competition in the best possible manner. Individuals named as winners are expected to perform with the orchestra on January 31 & February 1, 2009 and to attend at least the dress rehearsal on January 30, 2009. The Washington Idaho Symphony reserves the right to make performance adjustments concerning rehearsal time and availability of musicians.
